People forget how hard Queen rocked. They didn’t just write great pop songs.

I just rocked out so hard that I forgot what we were talking about…. Oh yeah. QUEEN IS AMAZING!!!!!

Queen- Stone Cold Crazy (via QueenLive1974)

I agree wholheartedly! Metal is way theatrical. The more theatrical the metal, the better, imho.

I’d like to clarify that I was reacting specifically to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by itself. The song is locked in eternal struggle with “Somebody To Love” for the honor of Conor’s favorite Queen song ever. But if yer looking for metal, look elsewhere. Like “Stone Cold Crazy”!!

blondesnotbombs:

Agreed. Queen is NOT metal. However, as much as they clearly diverge musically from bands like Dio or Judas Priest, they also exhibit a lot of stylistic commonalities.

For example, Iron Maiden. Have you ever seen footage of Iron Maiden..? Costume changes, narrative-driven power ballads [Rime of the Ancient Mariner…? Please.], spandex, makeup and hairspray as far as the eye can see, and a general sense of stagecraft and showmanship that would rival any musical. [Not to mention all of the homoerotic undertones….]

So on one hand, I’m not saying Queen is metal. But on the other hand, they might have INVENTED metal…

sostark:

If you think that’s bad, they also played Belinda Carlyle’s “Heaven on Earth” which I gave Jeff a lot of shit for.

bminortoa:

I love you guys, and I love this song, but you have to admit it’s less of a metal song than a showtune missing a show. Less Judas Priest and more Jesus Christ Superstar. Less Ronnie James Dio, more Andrew Llyod Webber…

…umm… less Randy Rhodes more Avenue Q?
