King Henry W??

While sitting in Shakespeare class today I realized  the crazy similarities between King Henry V of England and Pres. George W. Bush, of America (as depicted in Shakespeare’s history plays)

Both of them:

  • Are born into rich families, and their fathers eventually become rulers of the country
  • Are wild party animals in their youth, spending a great deal of time drinking and carrying on with unsavory characters
  • Eventually clean up and assume the leadership of the country
  • Launch the costly and bloody wars their father’s weren’t able to based on shaky reasoning and dubious evidence with hopelessly unprepared troops both in size and equipment
  • Discover war to be far more difficult to engage in then they anticipated

However that being said there are some key differences:

  • Henry was loved and revered throughout his country
  • Henry also won his war, despite long odds against him
  • Henry was known as a particularly gifted speaker

Perhaps our president is just a die hard Shakespeare fan whose modeled his life as a loving tribute to his favorite play
