Mass. Governor Deval Patrick’s 19-year-old daughter comes out as a lesbian in the latest issue of Bay Windows, New England’s LGBT newspaper. Governor Patrick won a bitterly contested gubernatorial race back in 2006 as the only major candidate in favor of the state’s marriage equality laws, something he faught for before he even knew his daughter was gay.
In the article Patrick admits to being reluctant to give an interview about such a private matter because he’s always tried to keep his children out of the spotlight and because he feels it’s really a non-isssue, asking “would we give an interview to announce one of our kids was straight?”
It’s these kind of things that make me proud to live in Massachusetts.
