Getting Things Done.

I know I’m not really the most organized person, but sometimes I’d like to be. A few days ago I came up with this handy little trick help me keep track of all the things I need to do, and I thought I’d pass it along.

I used to have my Internet browser’s homepage just be a blank page, so when I opened it I wouldn’t have anything preloaded. Last week I realized I could set it to any kind of HTML document I had, not just web sites. So I typed up a list of things I needed to get done, saved the file, and set it as my browser homepage. So now every time I open Firefox to check Myspace or something else that’s of equal or lesser value I see is a list of things I need to get done instead. You can have a sneak peek at mine right here.

I found it a lot more effective to put the to-do list in the form of a question, because when I look at it and answer “No, I haven’t done that” I feel a lot more guilty. On the right side of the screen I’ve been keeping rough drafts of things I need to write, like posts for this site, and e-mails. You can read what’s on there now, but it’ll probably get reworked before I put it on here for real.

You can do this too, just:
-Create a new text document,
-Type all the things you need to do
-Save it as “homepage.html”
- In your Internet browser of choice open the file
- Then go to preferences/options and say “set as homepage”

It’s also been a great way for me to brush up on my HTML/CSS skills (I’m planning a complete redesign of the site) You don’t need to know a lot to do this though, if you want the words to be all big like just type “<h1>” in front of each line and “</h1>” at the end of it.

So yeah, try it out if you want, I’d be interested to know if anyone else likes it.
