I would love to look into the habits of people who abandon radical beliefs/lifestyles.
I’m talking about former born-again Christians, or neo-Nazis, or anarchists, or political extremists (both liberal and conservative), etc. Is there any common trends or characteristics among people who give up such extremist positions? How do they feel about their former identities, and their friends/family that may still hold onto their former beliefs? I realize that there may be absolutely no common threads along such populations, but I would love to read some essays or articles (scientific or otherwise) about the subject. I’ll have to look into it.
[Now I think about it, I would probably include recovering addicts in this group as well]
